Spades is a trick taking card game where the suit Spades is always the trump suit. Spades is played with two teams of two players each that sit across from each other at a table. The players on the team are not allowed to share what cards they have. After the cards are dealt, each player must bid the number of tricks they believe they can take with their hand. The bids for the two team members are then combined, and the team as a whole has to take as many tricks as they bid, or they get a penalty of 10 points per trick bid. If the team makes the bid, they get 10 points for every trick they bid, and an additional point for every trick over their bid amount. Like in other trick taking card games, the player must follow the suit that lead the trick if they have a card of that suit. If they do not have a card of that suit, they can throw any card they like, including trump (spades) which beats all non-trump cards.
